After the A - Z

The A - Z challenge is over, and after a few day's rest from the blog, I realized it was time to get back here and to resume my usual schedule.

This was my third year doing the A - Z, and I think having a theme was a great idea.  In previous years I've just written something at the spur of the moment, off the top of my head and nothing linked together in any way.  So I liked the structure of having a theme.

Sorting through eight years of film reviews was interesting too.  My reviews are getting longer.  The early ones I looked at were only two or three paragraphs long.  My newer ones are often over a page.  They're better written too.

I think I may keep including the odd film review here on the blog.  From the comments I got during the challenge, there aren't many real arthouse/foreign language films being released in cinemas in other parts of the world, so the awareness of them is limited.  Since this is my speciality, whenever I see something I think is really worth seeking out, I'll post a review here.

The rest of the time, it'll be the usual mix of writerly angst, observations about the world around me and random ramblings from my often-addled brain.  I hope all my new friends from the A - Z challenge will keep visiting.  I know I'll keep going back to your blogs!

  1. Arthouse/indy/world cinema has always interested me, but it's so much harder to access. If I had the opportunity, I would absolutely glom onto this version of the movies on a regular basis.

    1. I'm lucky in that I run an arthouse, so have access to these films on a regular basis. I guess you don't have a local indie cinema that offers this kind of fare? Why don't you suggest that your local multiplex makes one screen an arthouse? If the community has the opportunity to see that stuff, the cinema may find it's a success.

    2. Oh, some of the big ones will play small movies every now and again, and we've got Kimball's, which is one of the things the hep people crow about all the time, but even though don't really play this kind of stuff too regularly.

  3. I like film reviews, it may sway me to see something I might not know about. Books take up so much of my attention, I don't always keep up with movies as much.

    1. It's hard to keep up with everything, and to be honest, most movies aren't that great. But I promise the ones I review here will be worth your while. Unless I see something so spectacularly bad I just have to share here. Sometimes writing those are the most fun...

  4. This was my first year and there's no way I could've just pulled something together last minute. I will probably be back next year too.

I really liked your theme. I didn't comment a ton, but read through them. Most were completely new to me, for the reason you stated above. So it was nice to learn about these movies that don't get all the attention that the Hollywood blockbusters do.
