Insecure Writers' Group 2-5-18

It’s spring! Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?

While it may be spring for those of you in the northern hemisphere, where I live, it’s autumn and rapidly turning into winter. Houses where I live don’t tend to have central heating, instead individual rooms might have a gas heater or heat pump.  Obviously, the more heaters you have on, the bigger your power bill gets.

In the past, it has always been harder to get motivated to write when it’s cold because the room I used to write in didn’t have a heater and was always much colder than other rooms in the house.

Last year we moved, and the space I write in now has a heat pump that also heats the living room.  So the cold will no longer be an excuse not to write over the cold months. But I’m sure I’ll find another excuse somewhere…

Do you find the seasons affect your productivity? In which season do you write the most?

  1. I never minded colder weather—I'd just throw on another layer. But now that I live in Florida, I find I'm less productive when it's hot. I love my air conditioning. I don't know what I would do without it. Here's hoping I never have to find out... :)

  2. LOL! How about if you don't find an excuse and just write. ;)

  3. My productivity might suffer a bit in the spring and summer because it's warm so I try to get outside more and walk.

  4. Like Patricia, my productivity suffers more in spring and summer, because not only do I walk more, I also garden more. But I do try to scribble something down, no matter how little. I'm glad you have a warmer room to write in, though. It's hard to focus when you are chilly.
