I'm brainstorming ideas at the moment for getting more people to come to the cinema. There is rather an overabundance of screens in my hometown, so getting people through the doors is extremely difficult and very competitive. And with so much available online and TVs getting so big and flashy, the reasons for coming to the cinema are getting less and less.
So I wanted to ask all of you. What would drag you up off the couch and into the theatre? Cheap tickets? A free glass of wine? A mystery movie? A session you could bring your dog to? One you can knit in? A clothing optional session?
This isn't about the actual film showing, but more about things that would drag people in regardless of what movie is playing.
So let your imagination run free and tell me what you would like to see at your local multiplex...
I think the cinema has to become 'an experience' rather than just watching a film. Not sure how to accomplish that, though. It would be on the same lines as going to a fancy restaurant instead of staying home to eat dinner.
ReplyDeleteI agree. But what makes a trip to the cinema an event?
DeleteCheap tickets, probably. We watch HBO, which is so much cheaper and we can be in the comfort of our house.
ReplyDeleteYeah. That's one of my ideas. The cinema I ran in Melbourne had a $5 day and every session of every film sold out almost every week.
DeleteOne of the things that keeps me out of the cinema is the high cost of refreshments. It's the same thing that keeps people out of ball parks. One MLB team I know of let's people bring in a bag with drinks and snacks to enjoy during the game. They have certain limitations like no alcohol, no glass bottles or cans, etc. Knowing I could take my own snacks would make me more willing to go to the movies.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people already bring their own snacks which is a little annoying. Especially when they bring popcorn which we don't sell. We sell wine and beer and gourmet ice cream.
