Celebrate the Small Things 13-7-18

This post is part of Lexa Cain's bloghop, Celebrate the Small Things. Head on over there to join up!

What am I celebrating this week?

I'm still working on my written-by-prompt book and have just over 12K written now.  I know I'm going to need to do a lot of editing at the end, and some of my character's journal entries may not make it into the final book, but I'm enjoying it.  And it's a very painless way of drafting in many ways.

Each day I get the prompt and try to figure out how I can use it to keep the story moving forward.  It's led to some really interesting twists and turns, and some fun little character quirks.  Sometimes the prompt is specific enough I have to figure out a way for the whole plot to revolve around it, and other times, it's just a small detail that has to be included somewhere along the way.

My kids are off school for two weeks, so yesterday I took a day off to spend with them.  Of course, after spending the rest of the week shut in his room doing nothing, my older son decided yesterday was the day he was going to hang out with his friends, so I ended up having a day with just the younger one.  We went ice-skating, had a nice lunch out and bought him some new pants and socks.  Today I will try and do something with the older one, even if it's just getting him the new shoes he so desperately needs.

What are you celebrating this week?

  1. Great job with the word count. The prompt thing seems to really be working for you. It's so funny to hear about you ice skating when it's so hot over here. Hope you had fun!

  3. Congratulations on the word count, and your approach sounds so interesting. I will definitely have to try that sometime in the future after my current WIP. Enjoy your time with your sons.
