Celebrate the Small Things (3)

This post is part of VikLit's blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things. Head on over there to join up!

So, what am I celebrating this week?

I started a new book on Monday, and I'm just under 6K now.  It's pretty dire, but it's a first draft and they're supposed to be awful, right?  I'm sure once I figure out my character voices etc, things will go much more smoothly....

I've had a reasonably peaceful week at work, which is good.  We have a massive number of functions coming up, plus the big film festival in three weeks, so I'll take my quiet moments where I can get them!

And right now, I'm drinking a particularly smooth and tasty red wine and on a Friday evening, that's about all you really need.

What small things are you celebrating this week?

  1. Agree, first drafts aren't meant to be perfect. They simply are a skeleton. Keep going I say:) I'm in the same boat with my first draft. Just about to start chp 7, so it's moving.

  2. I'm writing the first draft of my dissertation right now (short stories) and it's terrible. My first drafts always are, it's in edits and revisions that my stories really come out.

  3. Yay for your WIP. Just get the words down, and then you can do the really fun bit of editing and rewriting :)

  4. First drafts are about getting the words down so well done for that. Mid afternoon here so better not join you in a glass of something just yet, but cheers to you anyway :)

  5. Yep, first drafts are supposed to be awful. Otherwise, I am really doing something wrong. Nearly 6k is a fantastic start. Best of luck with it!

  6. HI Kate, Congratulations on starting a new book! I think starting them is the hardest part and things will get much better from now on. Good job for getting past the hardest part!

  7. Yay for the new book! I read a good post once about "Give yourself permission to suck." You'll clean it all up in the revisions. :-)

  8. I started a new book as well, I'm just trying not to critic myself on my road to finishing it, I hope that will help.
