I had to rewrite all...I've had to do this also. I had to rewrite all the scenes with my antagonist to make him stronger. I also had to include more scenes with him. The root of the idea wasn't bad, but I didn't have enough experience to do it properly. It's an exhausting task. You basically have to rewrite everything, even when you use old material.
